IPL Target and Runs Needed: A Worked Example
In an ordinary uninterrupted chase, the batting side aims to pass the first-innings total. Read the target on the current match display before calculating runs still needed.
Use a simple example
If the first side finishes on 170, an ordinary target is 171. If the chasing side is on 121, it needs 50 more to reach that target. These are illustrative numbers, not a current IPL score.

Add the available deliveries
Runs needed alone do not describe the chase. Read remaining valid balls, wickets and the innings allocation as well. A side needing 50 from 60 balls is in a different situation from one needing 50 from 20.
Check for revised conditions
Interruptions can change a target or available overs. Use the current official target and match status when that happens. Do not calculate from an old first-innings screenshot and assume the same target still applies.
A useful next step
Use the IPL page for the sequence from first innings to chase, and the current competition source for the real scorecard.
